Responsibility and sustainability

Not only the products of the HIRSCH Servo Group make a sustainable contribution to environmental and climate protection, sustainability in the entire value chain is an important concern. Due to more than 45 years of experience in processing and manufacturing technology as well as of knowledge of material properties and application technology the HIRSCH products have become the most energy-efficient ones in the world.

Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V.

As a responsible company, it is important for us to be part of associations such as the IK. We are one of over 300 member companies of the IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e. V.
The aim is the cooperation to ensure the responsible handling of single-use products.

Zero Granulate Loss

To reduce marine litter and environmental pollution we participate in “Zero Granulate Loss” and take actions to prevent the spillage of granulates and to ensure that granulates, which have already been spilled, are not released into the environment or in the sewage.

Forum of approved insulation with EPS

The main target of the FSDE and its supporters is the continuous improvement of the insulation possibilities with EPS and the cooperation with all partners. At the moment there are many positive developments which we want to push forward.

klimaaktiv project partner

As a klimaaktiv project partner, the HIRSCH Servo Group supports the #mission2030 strategy with ongoing activities to improve energy efficiency. Therefore, HIRSCH Porozell won the "energy-efficient production" award in 2018.

Smart Packaging Europe

As a member of the Smart Packaging Europe association, we pursue the vision of a sustainable EPS industry in Europe. Together with a total of 18 members, we can cover the entire life cycle of EPS: from raw material production to packaging manufacture and recycling.

Efficient use of resources

In addition to quality, particular attention is paid to the economical and resource-saving use of raw materials, resulting in savings of up to 40% in steam, up to 60% in electrical energy and up to 31% in cooling water.

Low environmental emissions

EPS is chemically neutral, insoluble in water and does not release any substances that could result in a contamination of groundwater, soil or air. In addition most of the exhaust steam energy generated during EPS processing is converted into heating energy for the production and office buildings via heat exchangers.

Recycling

EPS consists of 98% air and of 2% polystyrene, a petroleum-based foam plastic, and is 100% recyclable. Since 1992 Thermozell Entwicklungs- und Vertriebs GmbH has taken advantage of this feature and has turned 100% recycled EPS into a high-quality primary building material, which is used especially in the field of building construction as a heat-insulating, highly resilient and high-quality leveling fill.

Ecofriendly transport

We always ensure that transport is as short and environmentally friendly as possible. Our customized EPS and EPP packaging optimally protects products against shock, pressure and temperature fluctuations and, thus, guarantees a safe transport of goods. Due to its light weight, it helps to save fuel.

Save energy and protect the environment

In May 2018, a 6,350 m² photovoltaic system was installed at the Glanegg plant, which produces approx. 1 GWh of renewable electricity per year. Furthermore, we switched to LED lighting and implemented an energy monitoring system.

Reduction of fossil fuels

Moreover, our insulation solutions for floors, cellars, walls and roofs offer a high savings potential in buildings, as less energy use stands for less emissions! Every liter of fuel saved, for example, protects the environment by approx. 3 kg CO2.

Sustainable recycling of old EPS

In contrast to the currently common disposal methods of incineration and landfilling, the unique PSLoop recycling plant is to enable the recycling of polystyrene foam in a closed circuit for the first time. In this way, CO2 emissions can be reduced and the environment and climate can be protected. The PSLoop recycling plant makes an important contribution to environmental services.

The HIRSCH Servo Group

The HIRSCH Servo Group, with headquarters in Austria and 29 other manufacturing facilities in Central, East and South-East Europe, is an international company with core competencies in using EPS (expandable polystyrene), a highly versatile material.
